Media Downloader for Telegram Web · Last updated: July 26, 2026
Media Downloader for Telegram Web ("the extension") is an unofficial, third-party browser extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Telegram FZ-LLC or Telegram Messenger Inc.
Summary: the extension does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any user data. It has no server, no analytics, and no third-party integrations of any kind. Everything it does happens locally, inside your browser, while you are actively using web.telegram.org.
What the extension does
- Runs only on
https://web.telegram.org/*. -
While that page is open, it watches for
andelements in the chat you are viewing so it can show a download button when you hover one. - When you click that button, it fetches the corresponding file (an image or video you are already viewing) and saves it to your computer, either via Chrome's Downloads API or a direct in-page save — both entirely local operations.
-
To do this reliably for video (which Telegram streams in a way that
requires reading the page's own network requests), it reads
fetch/XHRrequests made by web.telegram.org itself while that tab is open. This information is used only, in memory, to locate the file you asked to download, and is discarded when the tab is closed. None of it is written to disk, sent anywhere, or retained beyond that.
What the extension does not do
- It does not send any data to the developer or to any third party.
- It does not use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind.
- It does not read or act on any site other than web.telegram.org.
- It does not access, store, or transmit your Telegram account credentials, messages, or contacts. It only handles the specific media file you explicitly click "download" on.
